Ouito For a Day

Thursday morning we got up at 4:00am. Our taxi was coming at 5:15. We just finish getting ready and were about to open the door to head down. Then there was a knock on the door. Santa (she is the caretaker at the condo) was there in her bathrobe. The taxi was early. Half hour later we were at the airport ready to fly to Ouito. It was only a 55 min flight but they still served breakfast on the plane. I won’t go into this now but the American airline companies could learn from them. But that will be another post.

Moving On Up

Well me certainly moved up from Crucita. And I mean up to 9957 ft above sea level. Denver is only 5280 ft.

Ouito was quite different from Crucita. A lot more modern which we figured it would be. It was nice seeing it, but it is way to busy for us. But we had a good day. We stay at a really nice hotel which was located in “Gringo Land”. It is called that because it is an area with American type restaurants and stores, etc., like these pictures show.

We were at the hotel at 9:30 in the morning so we stored the luggage and took a bus tour around the city which went to the very highest spot. Also went to La Basilica Church, Quito. This church is Ecuadors Notre Dame. But it was a long climb down to see it and a worse one up. In fact in Ouito I don’t think there is a level road. You are either going up or going down. Here are some pictures of the city and church from the bus tour.

It certain is quite a different landscape from Crucita right. The hotel was really nice. Which we would have had more time to enjoy it. But we went to bed around 4 in the afternoon because we had get up at 2 am to go to the airport for our 5:30 flight to Panama via El Salvador. Report next from the Panama Canal.
